Dow Jones: Director, PIB Analytics
Seeking a senior data miner and mentor to lead efforts around the automation of data modeling and data reduction of internal and external datasets for Dow Jones, the world’s premier business and financial publisher. This role will reside within the London-based offices of Dow Jones, reporting to the Vice President of Analytics.
This team member will lead the next generation of analytics solutions, from the automation of manual reporting processes to the implementation of advanced analytical functionality within the Personal Information Business team. These solutions will impact stakeholders across all internal verticals within Dow Jones.
Dow Jones seeks a critical thinking and decisive lead who will understand how to mentor junior staffers, emerging from top undergraduate and graduate programs.
A typical day can include managing data decisions on a vendor implementation, participating in recruitment and candidate interviews, to delivering insights to leadership across various internal verticals.
This lead will wear many hats, including being a proxy project manager for tasks executed by internal teams or vendors.
Specific responsibilities & Strategic goals include:
Mentor existing ICs, recruit and train new ICs
Automating the reduction of data for BI & analytics reporting
Automation of QA processes which determine concerns around data quality
Understanding when internally generated innovation can eliminate single points of failure around open source and vendor solutions
Skills & Qualifications include:
BSc + MSc computer science, or experience in lieu thereof
Multiple years of managing analytics functions
Multiple years hands on experience with a data mining or SQL-based coding platform
Multiple years experience managing data warehouse solutions (relational, noSQL, in-memory, network appliance)
Multiple years equivalent experience leading QA and implementing testing frameworks (unit, functional, integration)
Experience with: cloud architecture, open source solutions (AWS, Azure, Big Data stack), message passing/message bus solutions, WebSockets, various vendor and open source information visualization frameworks, scale/load-testing frameworks
