  • Develop and regularly re-evaluate the World team’s content strategy across all WSJ platforms and formats.

  • Implement a daily coverage plan for all platforms in cooperation with the World Coverage Chief, Chief News Editor, Analytics & Audience Editor and Platform Editors.

  • Implement a rolling long- and mid-term coverage plan for all platforms in cooperation with the World Coverage Chief, Planning Editor, Analytics & Audience Editor and Platform Editors.

  • Oversee and manage a rigorous story-pitch and story prioritization process to select the journalism that is to be pursued by the coverage area.

  • Oversee and manage the creation of story packages on article-page level (text, visuals, video, inset boxes for related articles or twitter, timelines, etc.) and ensure the packages are optimized for mobile audiences.

  • Ensure that all components are of the highest quality, adhere to WSJ standards and are ready for publication as a complete article-page.

  • Ensure the timely and coordinated publication of all coverage area story packages in coordination with the World Coverage Chief and the Chief News Editor. Test and ensure error-free publication (SEO headlines, hyperlinks, video, etc.).

  • Track key performance indicators with the Analytics & Audience Editor. Provide regular and actionable feedback to staff to improve overall journalistic quality and workflow efficiency.

  • Work closely with the Spot Desk to make sure breaking news stories are receiving the proper input from beat reporters and bureau editors.

  • Ensure on-platform engagement of audiences through techniques such as “further read” recommendations, “editors picks,” etc., based on audience data.

  • Work with the Newsletter Editor and the Digital News Editor to serve readers of newsletters generated within the coverage area. Track KPIs and optimize.

Position Description:

The role of the Research Editor, Special Interest Persons (SIP) is to research, compile and update for Dow Jones Risk and Compliance accurate and complete profiles of individuals who meet specific coverage criteria. The team updates and maintains the Special Interest global database of individuals who are alleged to have committed offences above a specific financial threshold in particular crime categories.

The Research Editor is responsible for monitoring relevant news from a portfolio of countries in order to identify individuals who meet the Special Interest criteria. News monitoring is carried out through Factiva, the group’s main research tool, although other electronic and non-electronic published sources may be consulted in order to obtain biographical data.

Within the profile, the Research Editor must accurately summarise in fluent English events relating to the individual and the reported allegations. The Research Editor must also monitor news for updates relating to the individuals covered to ensure the profiles are kept up to date.

In extracting data from Factiva sources, the editor must adhere to a set of coverage guidelines.

Depending on their skills and expertise the Research Editor may be required to compile Due Diligence (DD) reports on companies and/or individuals or contribute to other projects relating to the research and analysis of information relating to individuals.

Excellent research skills and attention to detail are required.

JOB SUMMARY

 

The Symbology Analyst will be part of the Companies Data team, which in turn is part of the Company & Executive Data team, a division of Data Strategy. The Companies Data team manages the Factiva Symbology company dataset, Pre Symbology, and looks after the third-party organisation and people data consumed by Factiva Companies & Executives, ensuring that all data is complete, current and accurate.

 

The Symbology Analyst will be responsible for a range of tasks related to Factiva company creation and management and the mapping of third party company data to Fcodes.  

 

In addition, the Symbology Analyst will assist the Executive Data team by researching and consolidating duplicate executive codes as well as confirming Footprints for executives to ensure news articles are correctly coded.

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Ensure that Factiva Company Symbology data is accurate and up-to-date. This includes but is not limited to:

    • Identify and create new company entries

    • Provide timely and accurate maintenance of company code data in Symbology and the DMI

    • Participate in data cleanse activities

    • Confirm that mappings between FCodes and FICs and Tickers maintained

    • Research corporate events

    • Assist in the compilation and distribution of regular Symbology reports

  • Map third-party company records to Factiva codes (fcodes)

  • Participate in the clean-up and maintenance of web-crawled DJUP data

  • Make certain queries are handled correctly and in a timely fashion

  • Complete custom research projects

Position Summary

Reporting to the Senior Marketing Manager based in Hong Kong, this role is to support the marketing operations of Dow Jones events, conferences and roadshows to be held in Japan in the coming months. What are my accountabilities?

  • Liaise with third party vendors (such as the hotel, translator, production agency) and our guest speakers on all event planning details/ logistics leading up to the event.
  • Run point (with help from the APAC marketing team) on the day of the event including registration of guests, greeting and prepping of guest speakers, directing and managing of hotel staff, clicking of slides, etc.
  • Work with the Sales team on creating, crafting, proofreading ALL Japanese copy for the event including invitation, program agenda, RSVP landing page, confirmation email, reminder email, thank you email, sorry we missed you email.
  • Create all on-site branding including backdrop, podium sign, holding slides, welcome signage, and other directional signages in Japanese.
  • Manage day to day RSVPs and respond to any incoming clients/prospects’ inquiries regarding the event.
  • Compile the leave-behind back containing all Japanese collateral and presentations, draft Japanese script required for our internal speakers and create name badges in Japanese prior to the event.
  • Data input in Japanese all business cards collected at the event into a template that will be uploaded into Salesforce.com CRM within 48 hours of the event.
  • This role is also expected to support the company’s Japanese website (www.dowjones.co.jp), including upkeep of the Japan website to incorporate updates from the DJ global site in the last 6 months plus any local market updates such as events, content and press releases. To test the website on a continuous basis to ensure page is running smoothly without bugs and to monitor on an ongoing basis any issues to be flagged to the technical team.

 

Requirements

  • Degree holder with 3 to 4 years’ experience with Marketing or Events.
  • Strong verbal and written Japanese and English skills

The Wall Street Journal’s internship program in Europe is aimed at undergraduate and graduate students who intend to pursue a career in journalism. This is a paid summer internship that lasts for 10 weeks. The summer internships generally take place over June, July and August, though start dates can be flexible in certain circumstances.

Dow Jones Watchlist is a global reference almanac of Politically Exposed Persons (PEPs) and sanctioned entities/individuals, their relatives and close associates. DJ Sanction Alert is a sanctions-specific product created specifically for the purpose of helping banks with their sanctions screening.

 

The Research Editor’s role is to research, record and update details relating to individuals and entities listed on sanctions and other official lists (“Special Lists”) issued by government bodies and regulators around the world, for example, the Office of Foreign Assets Control in the US, national law enforcement bodies or securities regulators.

 

Special Lists records are keys to ensuring the viability of Dow Jones’ Risk & Compliance products on a competitive market. As such, it is vital that updates are processed quickly, accurately and while adhering to our guidelines. The Research Editor will contribute to the daily monitoring of sources and the processing of updates in order to ensure that they are available in a timely manner.

 

Special Lists content has expanded significantly over the past years and continues to do so.  The Research Editor will support the Special Lists team in processing the addition of new lists and therefore must be proficient at analyzing and processing large volumes of data.

 

The Research Editor is responsible for verifying the accuracy of the material he/she adds to the database and for performing regular checks on Special Lists records. The Research Editor will also support the Manager, Sanctions and Other Official Lists, in identifying and dealing with quality issues and responding to client/sales queries. A keen eye for detail is therefore vital.

 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Locate, record and quality check information on individuals and entities cited on Special Lists as part of the Special Lists program, in line with the Manager’s requirements and the group’s market-driven targets.
  • Carry out systematic and exhaustive searches on Dow Jones Factiva products and publicly available sources to gather all available information on blacklisted individuals and entities.
  • As far as possible and following established procedures, check the accuracy of information before entering it on the database.
  • Enter information onto the database using the editorial application system.
  • Apply classification tags that enable extraction of relational groups.
  • Proof read and check own and other people’s entries as part of the daily research requirement.
  • Operate tracking systems to capture Special List changes.

The Strategic Account Manager - Risk & Compliance will drive new business revenue through any combination of the following activities:

  • MEET NEW BUSINESS TARGETS:  Grow aggressively revenue for the R&C business across the region through new clients and by cross-selling/upselling existing ones.
  • RETENTION:  Retain Dow Jones contract revenue in the assigned set of customers and ensure the Dow Jones R&C products and services address customers' business needs
  • RELATIONSHIPS:  Build strong relationships with Senior Level customer contacts in order to retain the business and look for expansion opportunities within the R&C solutions.
  • ACCOUNT MANAGEMENT:  Responsible for all areas of account management, including the development of good account understanding, understanding clients' businesses and resolving issues in a timely manner; understand competitor solutions the client is using and the client's current and developing needs
  • SALES REPORTING: Prepare accurate revenue forecasts each month for timely presentation to the Sales Director and Operations Manager.
